Artist's Comments

A while ago I finished one of the most wonderful books I've ever read. Jonathan Strange & Mr Norrell. Freaking masterpiece by my new idol Susanna Clarke (and the thing you shall blame for my suddenly love of drawing middle-aged men from the 1700-1800).
Soo... I've been trying to do some fan art ever since then but I had no good ideas and everyhting just turned up.. awful. So I decided to leave it.

But soon it's Christmas! And I'll be able to get my hand on her collection of short stories The Ladies of Grace Adieu (and other stories). There's no end of my excitment! :excited:

And I also found out that there's going to be a movie. (HOLYSHIT!)I don'tknow if I should celebrate or sit in a dark corner and cry since the movie never will be able to be as amazing as the book and since I'm damn worried that they'll ruin it like they've done with Eragorn (not that I've read the book, but the movie sucked so much that the book HAS to be way better), and the Harry Potter movies (I'm not that fond of the books... but the movies (exept form the first two) still violates them so mucht hat I want to scream). And then we have this new Golden compass. I've not seen it yet, and thinking of the critique.. I'll wait until I can rent it (but the book is quite good!).
Anyway.I still confess that I'm more excited than worried. I think. :excited: :excited:

But wait! I'm not done yet rambeling about my fandom! Oh no, you wish! Because I also read some interviews of mrs Clarke... and all her talk about her next book... :excited: :excited: :excited:

So that's what forced me into drawing this. :3 I can't say much about it in case I would happen to spoil anything. But it's Childermass. My favourite gentleman who.. well... I'll shut my mouth. The things in the background? Can't say anything about that. My lips are sealed. :*
But... everyone who've read it should remeber that he met someone who.. well... painted things in his hand. But we never got to know what these things did. o_O' (or have I missed something?). So I'm hoping that there may be some.. explanation in the next book. :giggle: Me want!
...and I also hope that the movie won't reach the cinema in the summer, cuz then I'd have to see it in Germany, France or Spain... which means dubs. Which means death.

..and the bird is supposed to be a rave, but it more looks like someold crow, I know. It was fun to do though.

and now... if you are such a incredible one and where able to read all this I'm suggetsing you read Jonathan Strange & Mr Norrell too. Now sho!

looks good, (though I haven't read the book, or anything :P).
And yeah,17-1800 stile is cool :D (many stiles from the past looks elegant, somehow?).

I don't know why, But I get somehow "Edward scissorhand" or "phantom of the opera" kinda of feeling looking as it? (I didn't came in a better example right now).
Anyway, keep up the good work :D

Allting, verkligen. xD

Spain? Have you said.... Spain? spain summer.... my excitement is growing for moments O_O
ok sorry hehe... Better talk about your pic which is.... wow.... amazing!! This is totally suitable for a cover or a book illustration, it's really beautiful, the atmosphere....
I've always loved ravens + snow I don't know if it's for the contrast of the colours or because both are so witchy and fairytale-ish... and so cold and beautiful. I supose it's a little of both things.

Gentlemen again... hehe, I totally understand you, you know
And you're awakening something in me that pushes me to investigate about that book, well, better read it ^^
Lately I'm starving, I need to read amazing books (since last day I finished The Pillars of The Earth, as I've told in my journal.... )

Another GREAT piece of art of yours, I love it a lot!!!

Har ingen kritik förutom att hans händer ser lite mysko ut, men jag ska inte säga nåt för jag suger. x'D

There's definitely not enough JS&MN (or Childermass :D) fanart in the world - thank you for helping closing the gap with this wonderful picture! :glomp: Childermass is my favourite character in the book, too  even if I found him very dim-witted in that particular scene...

(Thinking of this, I hope that the Raven King may crush the bones of the thief who stole my copy of "The Ladies of Grace Adieu" a week ago before I could even get my hands on it - I had ordered it on Amazon, and a neighbour told me that the postman stuffed the parcel in my postbox from outside, and then somebody else took it! :fork: )

But I'm really looking forward to seeing the film, although I'm also afraid that they might ruin it... Naturally, I'm quite curious to see who they will chose as actors, especially for Gilbert Norrell and John Childermass! (I think Dustin Hoffmann would be perfect for Mr. Norrell...)

Oh, and don't go to the cinema for The Golden Compass - it's total crap and not worth the money. :puke:
